Roulette

Summary - Roulette is a casino table game played against the house where the player bets one different number and color combinations on the table.  The goal of the game is to place a winning bet that is determined by the spin of a wheel.

Casino roulette is one of the most popular casino table games and has long been a favourite with players since it is easy to learn and offers excellent payouts.  Roulette is a French word which means small wheel and the title is fitting since the game is played on a table with a small wheel and a large field of numbers.  Roulette is played by selecting different sections of numbers or color combinations on the roulette board with the hopes that the ball will land on your choice once the wheel has been spun by the croupier (roulette dealer).  When the wheel spins, a small ball is placed inside the wheel and will eventually land in a numbered and coloured groove within the wheel.  If the number/colour corresponds to your bet, you win!

American Roulette & European Roulette

American Roulette is the most common type of roulette game that you would expect to find in most US and Canadian land based casinos.  This form of the game includes a roulette wheel with 00, 0, and the numbers 1-36, working out for a total of 38 different straight winning combinations.  Outside bets are also available to players and in some casinos progressive roulette is offered for 5 numbers in a row.

European Roulette is similar to American Roulette however in European there is only one 0 on the board and some additional rules for players.  This type of roulette would be found throughout Europe and Latin American countries.  Rule differences between European & American roulette include a surrender rule whereby players get half their bet back if the ball lands on 0, which is included in European games.  The other major difference is that no 5 number bets are permitted in European.
